Providing Rehabilitation Surgery for Disabled People and Surgical Training for Sustainable Capacity

Six primary areas

 

Maxillofacial Surgery

  • Cleft lip and palate repairs- CSC receive support from a partnership with Smile Train, an international organization dedicated to repairing cleft lip and cleft palate around the world. To date, more than 210 Khmer children have received free cleft surgery through The Smile Train Program. In the next year, more than 100 children will receive free cleft surgery alone through the continued Partnership.
  • Facial reconstruction for traumatic defects
  • Resection arthroplasty of jaw (temporo-mandibular) joints
  • Corrections of deformities caused by severe infections such as noma
  • Head and neck tumours

Eye Surgery

  • Cataract surgery
  • Excision of pterygia
  • Correction of lid deformities
  • Oculoplastic surgery
  • Fitting of artificial eyes

Orthopedic Surgery

  • Revision of painful or disabling amputation stumps from landmine injuries
  • Correction of polio deformities
  • Club feet and other congenital anomalies
  • Removal of shrapnel, bullets, other foreign bodies, where indicated
  • Treatment of chronic dislocations, malunited fractures and nonunions of fractures

Anaesthesia

  • Local, regional, spinal and general anaesthesia
  • Endoscopic intubation
  • Paediatric and adult anaesthesia

Training

  • International surgeons come to assist and teach
  • International medical students come to learn and assist
  • Foreign training for Cambodian surgeons
  • Training of medical support staff
  • Organized training program for surgeons and anaesthetists
  • Outreach programs to provincial and community hospitals
